Tata's Study Ways
Favorite Way: Random typing and looking out the dictionary in the same time. I compiled them in some Microsoft Excel documents, and I also collects Scripps' past round reports (1996 till now).
Roots: I'm currently studying foreign languages, whether I study at school or I studying them by myself. I also like discovering the origin of the words by guessing and seeing out the character of the language itself. Plus, I'm currently learning the IPA pronunciation *someone advised me* of some confusing languages. And, I also studying loanwords – if English borrow the words from some languages, so, I have to know!
Lists: I collected various lists in order to compete. Let I list them below:
* 2003 & 2004 Consolidated Word List
* Scripps National Spelling Bee Round Reports 1996-2012. Including the winning words from 1925, too.
* World Wide Words.
* Merriam-Webster Spell-It! 2008-2012.
* Spell Bowl Word List 2011.
* AARP Senior Spelling Bee Word list 2007-2011. I'll collecting them August this year for this year's Senior Bee.
* New Zealand Vegemite Spelling Bee Word List 2008-2009. I didn't get one for 2010 till 2012.
* 2010-2012 Classroom, School Spelling Bee Word List. I got District for 2010 ones.
* 2011-2012 School Spelling Bee Study List + Grade Word Lists.
* 2009-2010 Billerica Spelling Bee Word Lists.
and the lists that I compiled by myself crazily, imagining also international Bee with those lists I compiled.
Flash Cards: Actually, I made one, but this time, I didn't make any flash cards, so, I haven't anything done with flashcards!
Techniques: I don't have one, just I have to remember the roots and the words one-by-one, especially the common words, plus, in the bathroom, I usually quiz myself to spell the words.
Advice to other spellers: Keep trying! You can be a little "stalker" of collecting some of the "secret" word lists, such as classroom, school, and district word lists post-Bee, someday, but somehow, it helps! Don't give up, and also don't hesitate to ask the ones who is "great" at spelling, if you have something wrong. Keep studying, and don't give up! At the D-Day of the Bee, make sure you remember what you've been studied. And, ask for help if you have problem with the word, like you aren't sure it's homonym or not...it'll help you!

Audrey, one way to get all of the National Spelling Bee words from 1991 onward is by purchasing the Hexco book, "After a Spell Collection". Also, all of the words used in the National Spelling Bee since 1991 are in New Nat's Notes. I see that you got my message on your blog:)

I browsed it over the internet. And I'm a little bit stalking after those Bees (like AARP Senior Bee).
